Gopi Shankar Madurai called on Rt Hon Mark Field M.P Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific, U.K to ensure the rights of people born and living with Intersex traits in the United Kingdom and The Commonwealth Nations. British Deputy High Commissioner Bharat Joshi accompanied the Minister at the British Deputy High Commission Office. Rt Hon Mark Field praised the activities of Srishti Madurai student volunteer LGBTQIA+ movement. The office of High Commissioner of United Nations Human Rights Council states that 1.6 percentage of the world’s population is born with intersex traits that approximately equal to 8/10th of Tamil speaking population in this world. Srishti Madurai has been fighting for the rights of such people in India, particularly Tamil Nadu. Just like female infanticide, there is something called intersex infanticide in India. Midwives in villages are forced to indulge in ending lives of babies born with immature genitals or intersex traits. In some cases, infants born with such traits are subjected to unwanted surgical intervention. Sex-selective surgeries are performed on them to convert them either into a male or female.
